A complete, defined deck
This edition uses 78 historical Rider–Waite–Smith cards: 22 Major Arcana and 56 Minor Arcana. Each card has a study with upright and reversed interpretations, imagery, examples and source credits. The interpretations are prompts for reflection, not verified information about your future.
What happens when you shuffle
Your browser shuffles the full deck without repeating a card. It then deals three face-down options to the table. In a one-card reading you choose one of those options. In a three-card reading you reveal all three, assigning them in your chosen order to Situation, Challenge and Possible Next Step.
The three options are drawn from all 78 cards; they are not a fixed three-card collection. Card identities are set before selection. The tool does not change them because you click a different place, open a card study or dislike a result.
Direction is decided before a card is revealed
All cards are upright by default. If you enable reversals before shuffling, each card has an equal chance of appearing upright or reversed. Directions are assigned at shuffle time and remain fixed during that reading. The written interpretation changes with the displayed direction.
The three positions
Situation offers a way to consider the circumstances you are approaching. Challenge adds a factor, tension or assumption to examine. Possible Next Step provides a proportionate response to consider. None of these positions establishes a private fact or makes an action compulsory.
The results display the corresponding card study and position note. Full details and sources are linked so that you can inspect the reasoning. See the three-card guide for an example of connecting positions.
How the combined note is written
The site assigns a practical theme to each card and direction: beginning, pause or boundary, change, clarification, connection, resources, strain, or completion. A written relationship rule connects the Situation theme with the Challenge theme. The final card's position prompt then supplies an option to consider.
The combined note uses those written rules and the three selected cards. It does not analyse private information about your circumstances. Different cards may share a theme while retaining their own explanations. A combined note is limited by those rules and may not fit your question; you can reject it.
The fixed worked example shows a fuller editorial interpretation of a stated creative-project scenario. It is not presented as a real client record or a random draw.
Keeping a reading in this tab
The current reading is kept in this browser tab so that you can visit a card study and return. Refreshing does not deliberately reshuffle it. Choose Start a new reading to clear the old state. If tab storage is unavailable, drawing still works, but refreshing or returning may lose the reading.
Limits of the method
The cards cannot establish another person's thoughts, diagnose illness, predict death or determine legal and financial outcomes. Use the actual evidence, conversations and appropriate support that the decision requires. Do not keep drawing as a requirement to remove an unwanted result.
